About the Opportunity
The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time (35 hours per week) Recreation Coordinator based in Lake Country, BC.
Reporting to the Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, you will be responsible for the ongoing development, delivery, and evaluation of a wide variety of recreational and sport programming and events in support of the community. You will work cooperatively with community groups providing support for community recreational, cultural and education programming and events. In support of the diversity in activities that this position supports, your schedule will include some evening and weekend hours that will vary from week to week, and you will be required to work a flexible schedule of varying shift lengths.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsibility for supervising recreation staff and overseeing program contractors and volunteers;
- Coordinate and oversee special community events for all ages in Lake Country;
- Schedule community use of School District and District of Lake Country facilities and playing fields and oversee the proper care, control and distribution of equipment and resource materials; and
- Responsibility for preparing grant requests and developing and maintaining community partnerships related to community recreation activities.
More About You
To qualify for this role, you must have a minimum of a 2-year diploma in recreation, or related education and a minimum of five years’ work experience in recreation services or a closely related field. A valid British Columbia Driver’s License is required and a clear driver’s abstract. Ability to pass and maintain a Police Information Check, including the vulnerable sector section and a valid First Aid and CPR ticket. Experience working with the ActiveNet software program is considered an asset.
As our ideal candidate, you have excellent communication and public relations skills. You have knowledge of principles involving recreational, cultural, social, and educational services within the community. You have demonstrated skills and ability in record keeping, budgeting, and reporting, including preparing grant requests.
